President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have stressed that the relations between the two countries continued since time immemorial will never be weakened. The two leaders made these observations during a bilateral meeting on 21 June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro on the sidelines of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio + 20. Both leaders discussed the historic relations and the need to be in constant vigil over the strengthening of relations. During crucial times the two states should explore the possibility of arriving at solutions through negotiations. The progress of the housing project with the assistance of the Indian Government to build 50, 000 homes for the Internally Displaced Persons in North and Eastern Provinces was also discussed. It was decided to launch the project soon. The construction of the Sampur power project was also discussed. |
