High Commission of Sri Lanka in India in collaboration with Buddhist Organizations in India organised a series of events in several Buddhist centres in India to celebrate the Tripitaka Week from 16th – 23rd March 2019.
H.E Austin Fernando participated at the first event of the series of events organised, which was held in Bodh Gaya on 16th March, together with the Sri Lankan devotees and leading Chief priests from several Buddhist centers in Bodh Gaya i.e. Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, India, Nepal and Laos. Addressing the event, High Commissioner at the outset made an overview of the historical evolution of Tripitaka and on the present project by the Government of Sri Lanka to list the Tripitaka with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) Memory of the World Register. Speeches were made by the invitees and the Board members of the Maha Bodhi explaining the importance of Tripitaka and inscribing Tripitaka in the Memory of the World Register of the UNESCO and the speakers appreciated the initiative by President Maithripala Sirisena and the Government of Sri Lanka in preserving this national heritage.

HE Mr. Hamza Yahia-Cherif, Ambassador of Algeria in New Delhi made a courtesy call on HE Austin Fernando today. The two dignitaries discussed ways in which two countries can cooperate in the multilateral fora. Algeria is accredited to Sri Lanka from New Delhi. |

The Minister of Highways, Road Development & Petroleum Resources Development of Sri Lanka, Hon Kabir Hashim led the Sri Lanka delegation comprising Chairman CPC, Mr G.S. Withnage to the conference PETROTECH – 2019 as observers, from 10th – 12th February 2019 at India Expo Centre, Greater Noida – Delhi NCR, India.

The Prime Minister of India inaugurated the PETROTECH – 2019 conference and called for responsible pricing of crude oil that balances interests of both, producers and consumers highlighting the need to have universal access to clean, affordable and equitable supply of energy.
