The 19th Meeting of the BIMSTEC Working Group on Rules of Origin was held in New Delhi on 21-22 January 2019. The Adventure Racing World Championships will be held in Sri Lanka from 03rd to 13th December 2019 and ahead of entries opening in February teams are preparing for the most competitive and high profile expedition adventure race of the year, and the opportunity to visit a dream destination.
The destination announcement was made ahead of last year’s World Championships, which attracted 60 teams from 20 countries to Reunion Island in November. This was to allow teams extra time to plan and prepare for this once in a lifetime opportunity to visit an island which is a hotspot destination for travelers. The race is expected to cover 600km, exploring the hill country and the South of the island over a period of 4-8 days, with transfers via Colombo and race HQ set up near the Southern Beaches. Teams of 4 ( all co-ed) will race non- stop on a course combining trekking through the forests and plantations, mountain biking on country roads and trails, and paddling on rivers, lakes or the ocean. The AR World Championship 2019 is expected to bring together world’s best endurance athletes in events such as teams trek, kayak, mountain biking etc.

India’s leading trade show on business, MICE and luxury travel, the Business and Luxury Travel Mart was held at the Leela Ambience Convention Hotel in New Delhi last week.
Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs John Amaratunga was the chief guest.
Minister Amaratunga said that there was a marked increase in the business and luxury segment of visitors arriving from India.
“Business and luxury travel to Sri Lanka is a new trend that is catching on and affluent Indian visitors comprise a large share of the volume that is driving this segment.

The sixth edition of Colomboscope, the only interdisciplinary arts festival of its kind in Sri Lanka, opened on 25 January. Since its inception in 2013, the objective of the week-long event has been to critically examine the shifting sociocultural landscape of the island country. The current edition, titled Sea Change, features artists from 15 countries, including India, Germany, the UK and Mexico. Over 30 intergenerational visual artists, film-makers, musicians and scientists have delved into the maritime history, oceanic ecology and shipping infrastructure of Sri Lanka. “As the island coastline rapidly transforms before our eyes, festival artists will engage with a spectrum of utopian and dystopian scenes in dialogue with the oceanic frontier," says the festival’s curator, Natasha Ginwala.
